SARCOPHAGUS

When rains came
Washed pavements down
I found her in the box
Light had not touched for years
Surrounding her
Diplomas, jewellery
Payments of servants
Snakes of society
In her hands
An earthenware jar
To hold her tears

Il
In the sunshine
I'd seen her everywhere
On empty billboards
Staring, mockingly
Like she was selling
Some French wine
In the sexual art
Of educational books
She and I
Were there entwined

III
I knew I had lost her
When I looked inside
Through the eyes
Of this ancient queen
She was already dead
Sitting as she did
In a showroom full
Of electrical machines

IV
So I climbed in beside her
Kissed her lips
Drank the poison
From every purse
Saw the daylight
Fading quietly
As I slipped away
Into the curse
