Dear All;

 With the proper education, one would know that there is a difference
between something being good in and of itself, and something for which
we may or may or may not have a preference.
 Sometimes, these two aspects of, er... whatever they're aspects of,
will coincide. Three cheers and a huzzah!
 But what if they don't? I think we should still be able to appreciate
and love a well crafted piece of writing for its own sake. Even if we
don't particularly like the story, or thoughts, or values being
expressed. I myself do not care for Tolkien, Melville, or Dickens. And I
love Dostoyevsky, and Lu Xun, and Poe. But I can appreciate and love the
craft of the former group on their own merits, and I am not blind to the
defects that my be found in some of the work of the latter group.
 I actually posted a semi-coherent rant in the forum.
 Anybody feel like shoring up my points or deciphering my ravings...?
