I agree, poetry's purpose is to excite the soul.  Yet, our souls are excited 
when we interconnect with other people.   Poetry has a way of interconnecting 
people by touching upon common human emotions.  These emotions are both happy 
and sad.  I do not think we can exclude either, otherwise we we would be 
denying human expressions.
