[acornlive] purpose of poetry

Most of our lives are spent somewhere in tension between absolute joy
and despair, being neither totally in one place or the other. If poetry
can bring us potently into either realm, it has accomplished a great
thing. Perhaps the best poetry is that which allows us to
simultaneously be in both places.
