Hello;

 Emotional expression aside, one conveys the concrete qualities of an
object by provoking an emotional response in your reader that would
be appropriate to your object.
 For example, one could scientifically describe the state of the
human brain when deprived of sleep for an extended period of time.
You could also simply say of someone, "He's very tired."
 But it provides far more understanding of the subject's experience
when you say "Once upon a midnight dreary, as I pondered weak, and
weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, As I
nodded, nearly napping..."etc.
 One gets a far better understanding of what it feels like to be
tired from overwork.
 There were other examples even better than this, but as I've just
gotten back from work, I myself am "nodding, nearly nappimg..."
