There are a couple of great CD's which I find to be very inspirational:
"Songs of the Irish Whistle" by Joanie Madden
"The best of the Dubliners" which has a lot of Folk Songs
and "Celtic Collections" by Altan
There are some websites specifically about the Irish Famine, and actually I 
found one doing research which contains a true-life account of a man who 
traveled in Ireland at that time.  I will see if I can find that web 
address....
Also, on a personal note, my family migrated here to America During the 
famine.
I'll see what else I can dig up...
