My name is Douglas Jones I am currently living in Ireland (Co. =
Limerick).

Ethiopia 1992

A deeply throbbing and cavernous note

The sound of people singing their way to death.

Short, slow and dragging steps walking by rote

Hanging on to life and gulping down each breath.

Bloated belly, tight as a drum.

Flyblown face so innocent, calm and unafraid.

Wide eyes looking out from a mind struck dumb

By all the wealth to white tribes paid.

Walked to this place with the last of life

To die in green fields over there.

Undergo all the deep trials and strife

To be sure that ones body will belong,

Somewhere...

Ethiopia II

It rained today my love

Thirsty drops of jewelled moisture

Crying as it touch the parched lips

Of the thirsty Earth

Screaming 'Not enough'

And the people died in silence

Too weary even to sound complaint

At the fat water fed watchers

Screaming 'Not enough'.

And God cried.
