Stimulated appetites are funny things (whether for cars, cd's, clothes,
cosmetics, or most any other goods). They want to be and will be satisfied
fully only with the specific object of their desire. When they are not, they
often are frustrated in a measure directly commensurate with the amount of
appetite set in motion. Class and status are more keenly experienced.
Violence is never far off.
Groups of people (children, adolescents, etc.) who have little or no
purchasing power are directly targeted by the American advertiser with the
expectation that the child or teen will exert pressure on the parent(s) to
buy the product being pitched.
I could go on. I won't though (so as to spare you good people my ravings).
It is a grave and shameful thing though to manipulate minds to sell
products. Good products or bad products are not the point at all.
