The Rug
by Liam Ronan

Sun threads
restive, ropey,
spread=20
morning stain
across your carpet,
the Kazakh.
Drawing the curtains
cursing ,
you say
surely it will fade
and, after all, =20
we both know
who paid
for it.
Would it do
to remind you=20
your Caucasian=20
has lain
on the dusty roads
of Tehran,
pile trialled
by traffic?
I apologize
for the dawn,
the day,
the dearth of shade,
the little money
I have made;
follow the pattern;
    put the coffee on. =20
