Love

I whispered in your ear this morning - "where have you been?"
I searched for you when the air hung heavy with pungent honeysuckle and
the children's muffled laughter rode the waves of air like smoke-where
were you?
I rode your heels thru the maze of life and touched you briefly once or
twice
I know you felt my breath upon your cheek at the sight of your little
one-where did you go?
You recognized my face when you were with him only for a night
A shout--a flicker--then I was gone
At least now you know I am
