The
Re-entry
Bent
to the will of your illness,
you sit twisted, trapped in the leather
chair from which you rarely escape.
Pain grips and then wrings your body,
squeezing out words on puffs of air.
We relax, begin to chat,
make sure that our talk never strays from the past,
and so, for a while, forget what the future holds.
When it's time to leave
I haul myself off the sofa,
drag myself from years gone by.
But you're still there,
for you've tried to stand,
had a funny 'turn' -
dropped 2 foot and 10 years to burn,
angrily, from the wreckage of 'now'.
