The Japanese Haiku Masters

There are four prominant names in the history of Haiku, Basho, Buson, Issa and Shiki.

Basho is usually concerned with God as reflected in the mind of the Haikuist before the beauty of the natural moment. Buson deals with things in of themselves, while Issa is concerned with the plight of Man. Shiki's vision is that of a painter rendering the real world anew in the light of perceived beauty.
